accupuncture - amanda 2~ Acupuncture ~ Relieves pain or illness by placing needles into skin at particular points to stimulate the nervous system throughout the pets body. Acupuncture has been found to not only help pain control, but also arthritis, joint, gastrointestinal and skin disorders, behavioral problems, and even found to stimulate the body’s own immune system.

~ Cold Laser Therapy ~ A non-invasive proven therapy to stimulate cells and increase blood circulation to release factors that aid in healing and pain control. The best part about cold laser therapy is there are no known side effects and the results can be just about immediate! Cold laser can be used to treat chronic non-healing wounds, chronic joint pain, muscle strains or tears, tendon and ligament injuries, and has become a popular option for post-surgical pain control.

Notes from the Groomer: The Zoom Groom Brush

This is a Zoom Groom brush. I use it daily on almost every breed. It has dual use, for brushing out coats and massaging during baths. It’s useful because:

  • zoom groom brushA great grooming brush for long and short hair
  • Easy to hold grip
  • Removes loose hair like a magnet
  • The Zoom Groom Brush massages skin and stimulates capillaries to promote natural oil production for healthy skin and coats.
  • Effective for all dogs and they love the way it feels.
  • Collects loose hair like a magnet and leaves coat shiny and beautiful.
  • Works great as a bathing aid too, helps scrubs away dirt and grime.

Hot Feet

paw padsDog’s feet and pads are tough, right?

Most people are aware that foot pads can be injured by stepping on something sharp, but  what about something hot? Imagine stepping barefoot onto hot pavement. Ouch!

It is important to remember your dog’s paws feel heat extremes, too. To prevent burns and blisters, avoid walking your dog on hot pavement or sand.

If the ground feels hot when you place the back our your hand on the ground then it is most likely too hot for your pet to walk on too.

Signs to look for include blisters, loose flaps of skin and red, ulcerated patches. Often pets will lick at their paws, limp, or even refuse to walk due to the discomfort.

If you think your pet may have burned their pad, call you veterinarian right away.

Quick Guide to Heartworm Disease

Heartworm Life Cycle

Heartworm Life Cycle

Heartworms, which can be fatal, are transmitted by mosquitoes and found in virtually all parts of the United States.

Pets become infected while mosquitoes take their blood meal. Outdoor pets come into contact with mosquitoes more frequently than indoor pets, but both are at risk.

The good news is heartworm can be prevented with monthly medication.

Our doctors at Dobson Ranch Animal Hospital and Grooming recommend heartworm prevention year-round. Schedule an appointment today to determine which preventative is right for your pet.
